Q. I was told there was a delay in speech development during the 18-month check-up.
When I said, 'Please bring the diaper,' they were able to bring it, so we could have that kind of interaction.
I thought there was no problem, but during the health check, I was asked, "Can you name more than 10 objects?"
I could say about six or seven words that aren't names of things, like 'bye-bye' or 'I love you.'
I was told that it wouldn't work.
A.
At 18 months, it's perfectly fine for a child to use everyday phrases like "bye-bye" instead of just naming objects.
If your child can say sounds like 'woof' and 'bye-bye,' then they are good to go for the 18-month check-up.
What that person said during the health check is textbook material for the current field.
More and more people are making judgments based on textbooks without truly understanding the real growth and development of children.
Children's highly diverse and dynamic development often diverges from the stereotypical growth described in textbooks.
That's what they say during health check-ups.
What is being checked during the 18-month health examination?
Can you hear, understand the meaning of words, and convert them into individual words?
If you can do these three things, you're good to go.
For example, when we said things like, 'Please bring the diapers' or 'Please take out the trash,'
It's fine as long as you understand what was said.
And the most certain thing is that the mother we live with in our daily lives
If you think, "Oh, this child is fine" or "There are no issues with the communication," then you are good to go..
Children are constantly growing, so even if they can't do something today,
There are things that can be accomplished by this time next year.
When observing my child's growth, instead of comparing them to other children, I think, 'How do they compare to three months ago?'
I would like you to see it this way.
As long as there is some growth or change, that's okay.
The words I could speak three months ago and the words I can speak now. When I compare them, I've really expanded my vocabulary, haven't I?
So, the development of language is progressing smoothly.
