In February 2023, a board member participated in the four-part series "Foreign Supporter Training Course" hosted by the Multicultural Synergy Center DIVE in Fuchu City, Tokyo.
This training was held in the large hall of a beautiful local community center. Fuchu City currently has about 5,700 foreign residents, and the city is focused on supporting the integration of these foreign residents.
In the course, the director touched upon the history of foreign resident acceptance in Japan, sharing examples of the needs and challenges faced by foreign residents in their daily lives. Active discussions were held through group discussions on how citizens can support foreign residents.
Participants expressed that the explanations were concrete and easy to understand, and that listening to the opinions of other participants provided a sense of fulfillment, broadened their perspectives, and helped them learn the mindset needed for support. They shared comments such as, "The content of the course was all fascinating, and I learned essential knowledge and ways of thinking for future supporters," "I was able to think for myself and also learn about others' perspectives," and "I had the opportunity to learn broadly about foreign support, from historical backgrounds to more relatable topics. In particular, I want to keep in mind the 'common pitfalls for supporters' and revisit it often to ensure I don't forget it."
